صادقت دول الاتحاد الأوروبي، اليوم (الأربعاء)، على التسوية التي تم التوصل إليها مع البرلمان بشأن الاتفاق التجاري الذي أبرمه التكتل مع الولايات المتحدة العام الماضي، ولم يعد الاتفاق بحاجة سوى إلى الضوء الأخضر الأخير من النواب الأوروبيين ليدخل حيز التنفيذ.

وصادق دبلوماسيو الدول الـ27 على النص الذي تم التفاوض بشأنه مع النواب الأوروبيين الأسبوع الماضي، وهو يهدف إلى إلغاء الرسوم الجمركية التي يفرضها الاتحاد على معظم السلع المستوردة من الولايات المتحدة، لقاء فرض سقف قدره 15% للرسوم التي فرضها الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب على المنتجات الأوروبية المستوردة.

ومن المفترض أن يصادق النواب الأوروبيون بدورهم رسمياً على النص في منتصف شهر يونيو خلال دورتهم العامة القادمة في ستراسبورغ، بعد عرضه على اللجنة يوم (الثلاثاء) القادم، وذلك قبل انتهاء المهلة التي حددها ترمب من أجل ذلك.

وأمهل ترمب الاتحاد الأوروبي حتى الـ4 من شهر يوليو، يوم الذكرى الـ250 لاستقلال أمريكا، للمصادقة على الاتفاق حول الرسوم الجمركية الذي تم التفاوض بشأنه الصيف الماضي في تورنبيري في إسكتلندا.

وأرفق البرلمان الأوروبي وممثلو الدول الـ27 في التسوية إلغاء الرسوم الجمركية الأوروبية على واردات المنتجات الأمريكية ببعض الشروط.

The European Union countries approved today (Wednesday) the settlement reached with the parliament regarding the trade agreement that the bloc made with the United States last year, and the agreement now only requires the final green light from the European lawmakers to come into effect.

Diplomats from the 27 countries endorsed the text that was negotiated with the European lawmakers last week, which aims to eliminate the tariffs imposed by the EU on most goods imported from the United States, in exchange for imposing a cap of 15% on the tariffs that U.S. President Donald Trump imposed on imported European products.

The European lawmakers are expected to officially endorse the text in mid-June during their upcoming plenary session in Strasbourg, after it is presented to the committee next (Tuesday), and before the deadline set by Trump for this purpose.

Trump has given the European Union until July 4, the 250th anniversary of America's independence, to ratify the agreement on tariffs that was negotiated last summer in Turnberry, Scotland.

The European Parliament and representatives of the 27 countries included in the settlement the elimination of European tariffs on imports of American products with certain conditions.
